Torture

Torture is considered one of the most serious human rights crimes and is clearly prohibited under international law and universal jurisdiction. The situations of mistreatment and torture in Venezuela have been denounced both by human rights organizations and by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The lack of investigation and establishment of responsibilities of the perpetrators to bring them to justice are also a matter of concern regarding torture and ill-treatment in Venezuela.
